Lake Forest College Program in Greece & Turkey

APPLICATION PROCEDURES

Students are accepted into the Program in Greece & Turkey of Lake Forest College by a committee of faculty, with the concurrence of the Director of Off-Campus Programs. Major considerations in selecting participants are:

- Sophomore or higher class standing at the time of participation (Lake Forest seniors must petition the Academic Appeals Board for permission to be off-campus in their last term);

- Evidence of academic motivation and promise of adequate academic performance (usually an average of B- or better will be expected);

- Reason to believe the student will benefit from the program (the applicant's major interests and the reasons given for wanting to join the program are important considerations);

- Assurance that the applicant has the maturity to live abroad under the conditions of the program and will contribute to the quality of the group's experience.

If applicants number more than those who can be admitted, preference will be given to upperclass students.

Each application must be supplemented by the following:

- A letter of recommendation from a faculty member (preferably from the student's major department);

- A letter of reference from the Dean of Students.

Students applying from other institutions also must submit:

- An official transcript from their home institution;

- College transfer application fee of $20.

Upon acceptance into the Program, applicants will be expected to submit:

- A deposit of $250, non-refundable except in the case of a withdrawal for documented medical reasons or family emergency (immediately after acceptance);

- A medical report (to be submitted in the fall prior to participation);

- A statement of liability waiver (for parents and students, to be submitted in the fall prior to participation).

Students are encouraged to submit applications by April 30 of the preceding academic year, and all applications must be submitted in full by October 31. Completed applications will be evaluated beginning on May 1 and periodically thereafter as they are received. Later applicants will thus be competing for fewer spaces. Auditors are welcome if space is available; auditors' applications will be considered beginning November 1st and thereafter until January 30th or space in the course is filled.
