Auwell "Fog" Fogarty '39
Growing up in Evanston, Illinois, Auwell attended Evanston Township High School.  He earned varsity letters in football and basketball and was selected All Suburban League in basketball his senior year.

Entering Lake Forest College in 1935, he earned three varsity letters in football and one in basketball.  "Fog" was an outstanding offensive player renowned for his passing and punt return skills, which contributed significantly to the undefeated 1938 team.  A member of Kappa Sigma, he was also an active participant in the L.F. Club.

After graduating with a double major in economics and political science, he accepted a position with the United States Steel Corporation before being called into military service as a naval officer and serving in both the Atlantic and Pacific theaters.  After his discharge in 1945, he returned to U.S. Steel, where he was eventually appointed Manager of Sales Central Region and remained there until his retirement in 1977.

An active member in the communities in which he resided, his civic offices included directorships at the Crown Center of Health Education, the Veterans Civic Association, the Chicago Athletic Association, the Ruth Lake Country Club and the United Way of Hinsdale/Oak Brook.  He also served on the Lake Forest College Alumni Board of Directors.  For many years "Fog" coached Little League baseball and, as an avid recreational golfer, had the enviable distinction of recording three holes-in-one.
