Anna Panighetti '98

Anna Panighetti grew up in Chico , California , and attended Pleasant Valley High School . She earned varsity letters in volleyball, basketball, and swimming and was named the school's Senior Student-Athlete of the Year.

Panighetti entered Lake Forest College in the fall of 1994 and became one of the most decorated athletes in school history. She helped lead the volleyball team to a 70-32 overall record and 13-6 mark in Midwest Conference matches during her four years at the College. Panighetti was named first team all-conference each season and the league's Player of the Year in 1997 when Lake Forest claimed the first conference title in program history. She was also the Foresters' captain and Most Valuable Player that season. The multi-sport athlete was also successful during the winter months. After playing in every game for the 15-7 basketball team as a freshman, she helped the swimming & diving team capture conference championships each of the next three seasons. Panighetti competed on six conference championship relay teams during her career and, as a senior captain, won an MWC title and advanced to the NCAA Championship Meet in the 200-backstroke. She still ranked among the top five in program history in the 100- and 200-backstroke at the time of her induction.

Panighetti's success at the College was not limited to athletic competition. The six-time Academic All-Midwest Conference honoree was a Dean's List honoree all eight semesters, a Presidential Scholar, and a member of Phi Beta Kappa and Sigma Xi. The physics major also earned the Peter C. Clute Award for Outstanding Character and graduated Magna Cum Laude.

After five years as a Peace Corps volunteer and three as an educator and social worker, Panighetti attended the University of California , San Francisco School of Medicine.
