Inducted 1985 Growing up in Wilmette, Illinois, Andy attended New Trier High School where he played basketball and baseball. He entered Lake Forest in 1966 and went on to earn three varsity letters in basketball. He co-captained the Forester cagers his senior year with fellow Hall of Famer Mike Maiman '70. While at Lake Forest, he also served as the Social Chairman for the Digamma Alpha Epsilon fraternity. After graduation he coached freshman basketball at Maine East High School in Park Ridge, Illinois for several years before moving to Panola College, a junior college in Texas. In 1979 he accepted the position of head baskebtball coach at Louisiana Tech and became the yougest Division I coach in the country. While at Lousisiana Tech he compiled a 122-55 record in six seasons and led his team to two straight NCAA appearances, including a final eight appearance in 1985. Recognized as NCAA Division I Regional Coach of the Year in 1983 and 1985, Andy left Louisiana Tech in 1985 when he accepted a position at the University of Washington, and in his first season there was again selected as Division I Regional Coach of the Year. Following his days at Washington, Andy coached an Italian professional team in Europe and captured the European Cup Championship in 1990. He returned to the States in 1991 to become the head coach at Florida Institute of Technology.
