Inducted 2006   Alan Shethar grew up in Amherst, New Hampshire, and graduated from Milford Area High School in 1967. He played four years of varsity basketball at Milford and was named All-State as a senior.
Shethar enrolled at Lake Forest College in the fall of 1967. As a freshman he ranked second on the varsity basketball team in scoring with 10 points per game. The next year he led the squad with 20.4 points and 9.7 rebounds per contest. After the season he was named the team’s Most Valuable Player and earned Honorable Mention All-District honors from the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics after the season. As a junior he ranked second on the team with 20.6 points and 8.6 rebounds per game. He captained the Foresters as a senior, paced the squad with 20.3 points per game, and was named its Most Valuable Player after the season. His career totals of 1,436 points and 18.0 points per game ranked fourth in team history at the time of his induction and his 620 rebounds were ninth. His scoring averages during each of his last three years were listed among the top 10 single-season marks in the program’s history. Only one player exceeded Shethar’s career scoring total in the first 35 years after his graduation and just two pulled down more rebounds. A successful student, Shethar earned the Keller Award for Athletes with Outstanding Scholastic Performance. After graduating from the College in 1971 with a major in English, Shethar earned an additional Bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering from Northeastern University in Boston, Massachusetts.
