Inducted 1980 Growing up in Lake Forest, Illinois, Bob attended Lake Forest High School, where he earned three varsity letters in track, basketball and football. He captained the basketball team his senior year and set the school record in the pole vault. He entered Lake Forest College in 1951 and participated on CCI conference championship teams in football (1952) and baseball (1953). Bob earned three letters each in baseball and football and one in basketball. Twice he was selected All-Conference in football and he was elected captain his senior year in both football and baseball. While attending Lake Forest College he also met his wife, Betty Ann Fitzgerald '54. Following graduation Bob, a history major, earned a Masters degree at Roosevelt University and then embarked on a teaching career in the Waukegan school system. He continued his interest in athletics by officiating basketball and participating in amateur golf events, winning the Deerpath Golf Championship in 1979 and 1980.
