Inducted 1991 Growing up in Northbrook, Illinois, Bill attended Deerfield High School. He was All-Chicago Suburban League in basketball. He entered Lake Forest in 1932 and earned four letters in baseball, four in basketball and one in tennis. He was a star outfielder for the baseball team for four years. Captain of the basketball team his senior year, Bill, a member of Kappa Sigma, averaged 21 points per game and was knows as a free throw shooting extraordinaire. His accomplishments on the charity stripe made him sponsor of the Emery Free Throw Trophy. Graduating with a degree in business administration, he played semi-pro basketball with the Boston Majors. He then entered the Navy and served as a P.T. Boat Skipper in the South Pacific during World War II. Returning from the war in 1945, he worked for First National Bank of Chicago and played on their basketball team. He eventaully became the owner of Standard Service Stations in the Deerfield area.
