Forester Athletic Hall of Fame
Inducted 2004
Barry Jacobson '81
Barry Jacobson grew up in Glenview, Illinois, and attended Maine North High School. He earned all-conference and team Most Valuable Player honors in soccer and all-conference and all-area accolades in basketball while captaining both squads.

Jacobson enrolled at Lake Forest in the fall of 1977 and immediately took over as the soccer team's starting goalkeeper, a position he held throughout his career. The Foresters posted a 28-13-6 overall record and a 15-2-3 mark in Midwest Collegiate Athletic Conference play in his four years and claimed league titles his junior and senior seasons. Lake Forest recorded 14 shutouts during his career and, as a team captain in 1980, Jacobson earned National Soccer Coaches Association All-Region honors as the Foresters reached the NCAA Tournament. He was also a three-year member of the basketball team and worked on both the hockey rink staff and baseball grounds crew.

After graduating from Lake Forest in 1981, Jacobson went on to earn a master's degree in social work and became a school social worker. He also began coaching high school soccer and garnered numerous accolades, including National Secondary School Girls Coach of the Year from the NSCAA and both Illinois High School Girls Coach of the Year and Soccer Person of the Year honors from the Illinois High School Soccer Coaches Association. He was inducted into the IHSSCA Hall of Fame in 2003 and became the state's all-time winningest girls high school coach in 2004.

He lists the births of his two sons, Matthew and Daniel, among his greatest lifetime accomplishments.
