Inducted 1977   Growing
up in New Canaan, Connecticut, Bruce attended New Canaan High School and
won numerous varsity letters. He was president of the Varsity Lettermen's
Club, captain of the football, hockey and track teams and he received
the award for Most Outstanding Senior Male Athlete. After being offered
several athletic scholarships from colleges and universities around the
country, he chose to pursue his degree at Lake Forest.
Entering Lake Forest in 1963, Bruce lettered in football and track. His versatility as quarterback, halfback, kicker and wide receiver made him a valuable and key member of the team. In track he broke the College's 440 yard dash and javelin records and won the Chicagoland Invitational Track Championship in both events his senior year. In addition to his athletic achievements, Bruce, a history major, was also elected co-chairman of the Black Oak Society, an honorary service organization for freshmen and sophomores. He was a member of Digamma Alpha Upsilon fraternity and wrote for the Stentor. Following graduation in 1967, Bruce entered the Army as a conscientious objector and served as a medic in Vietnam. He obtained a Master's degree in Forestry from the University of Massachusetts and settled in Sharon, Vermont.
