Forester Runners Finish Eighth at Season-Opening Tom Barry Invitational

GREEN BAY, Wis. - The Lake Forest College cross country teams began the 2008 season at the Tom Barry Invitational on Saturday (August 30). The Foresters placed eighth in both the women's and men's competition. Carroll University women finished first and host St. Norbert College won the men's race.

Sophomore Ryann Freeman (Northfield, Minn./Northfield) was Lake Forest's top runner on the women's side. She placed 22nd with a career-best 5-kilometer time of 21:27. Classmate Brecklind Golovich-Keie (East Jordan, Mich./Charlevoix) was next on the team in 30th place with a time of 21:56. Freshman Allie Longenecker (Lee's Summit, Mo./Lee's Summit North) finished 46th in 22:45 and junior Martina Kolb (Gurnee, Ill./Warren) followed her across the line three seconds later with the fastest time of her career. Senior Sarah Marrinan (Sauk Rapids, Minn./Cathedral) rounded out the top five in 55th place with a time of 23:00.

Freshman Kelsey Small (Wallingford, Conn./Notre Dame) was the first Forester to finish the men's 4-mile course, placing 24th in 23:20. Senior Andrew Hutchinson (Redwood City, Calif./Sequoia) was 30th in 23:33 and freshman Peter Sullivan (Lockport, Ill./Lockport) 36th in 23:49. Sophomore Gilbert Reynders (St. Louis, Mo./Chaminade College Prep) finished 58th in exactly 25 minutes and junior David Ehrenreich (Deerfield, Ill./Deerfield) placed 70th with a time of 25:51.

Lake Forest will compete again next Saturday (September 6) at the Carroll University Invite at Minooka Park in Waukesha, Wisconsin. The meet will begin at 11:00 a.m.
