Forester Women Place Eighth, Men Ninth at MWC Championships

GALESBURG, Ill. - The Midwest Conference held its annual championship meet on Saturday (November 1) and Lake Forest College's women placed eighth and the men ninth. Monmouth College captured its first women's team title and Grinnell College claimed the men's championship for the 22nd time in the last 23 years.

Sophomore Ryann Freeman (Northfield, Minn./Northfield) has been the top runner on the women's team in each race this season and placed 26th out of 131 runners on Saturday. The top 20 finishers are named All-Midwest Conference. Freeman's 6-kilometer time of 25:10 is the 14th-fastest mark in team history. Freshman Allie Longenecker (Lee's Summit, Mo./Lee's Summit North) was next on the team in 51st place with a season-best time of 26:35, which ranks 25th in program history. Senior Sarah Marrinan (Sauk Rapids, Minn./Cathedral) completed the course in 27:05 and in 62nd place. Sophomore Brecklind Golovich Keie (East Jordan, Mich./Charlevoix) crossed the line three places and nine second behind Marrinan and freshman Kayla Ahlstrand (Grayslake, Ill./Grayslake Central) rounded out the top five in 69th place with a time of 27:28.

Senior Andrew Hutchinson (Redwood City, Calif./Sequoia) led the men's team for the fourth time in the last five meets. He covered the 8-kilometer course in 28:03 and placed 30th. Junior Tom Plonowski (Gurnee, Ill./Warren) was next on the squad in 63rd place with a time of 29:23. Freshman Peter Sullivan (Lockport, Ill./Lockport) finished 69th in 29:49 and classmate Kelsey Small (Wallingford, Conn./Notre Dame) was next with the same time. Sophomore Gilbert Reynders (St. Louis, Mo./ Chaminade College Prep) completed the team's top five in 73rd place with a time of 30:14.

The final meet on the Foresters' 2008 schedule is the NCAA Division III Midwest Regional in two weeks (November 15). Augustana College will host the event at the Saukie Golf Course in Rock Island, Illinois. Seven runners from each team will compete and the event will begin at 11:00 a.m. with the men's 8K race. The women's 6K will follow at noon.
