SARAH SIMPSON NAMED FORESTER ATHLETE OF THE WEEK

Junior cross country runner Sarah Simpson (Colorado Springs, CO) has earned the honor of being named the Forester Athlete of the Week. Simpson ran a career-best time of 20:20 over the five-kilometer course at the NCAA Midwest Regional Championship Meet on Saturday, November 13. She was the top finisher for the Foresters for the 7th time in 10 meets this season. Her 95th-place finish (out of 209 total runners) at the meet moved her 40 places closer to the front than she was at the 1998 Regional Championship. The meet capped off a fantastic season for Simpson, who set a school record by beating 948 runners this fall, 72-percent (3rd-best in school history) of those she faced. Her time of 20:20 ranks 13th on the list of Lake Forest top 5K races. It was the first time the Foresters ran an entire women's team at the Regional Meet, placing an impressive 18th out of 31 complete teams.
The Lake Forest College Athletic Department selects a Forester Athlete of the Week each Thursday.
