MURILLO EARNS ALL-CONFERENCE HONORS TO LEAD LFC
Sophomore Michelle Murillo was the 13th woman to cross the finish line at the Midwest Conference Championship Meet on Saturday.  Her All-Conference performance helped Lake Forest College earn seventh place as a team.  The men finished in ninth position.  Murillo's time of 19:54 was her season best and allowed her to be the first LFC woman to break 20 minutes in two years.  Additionally, she was only the third Forester woman to ever earn All-Conference honors.  Head Coach Mike Wajerski added, "Michelle ran a very smart race.  She got herself in a good position early and moved up as the race went on.  To break 20 minutes at Beloit, a course that is not conducive to running fast times, is impressive."
Fellow sophomore Sarah Simpson finished in 26th place with a season-best time of 20:57.  She was followed by Jennifer McGuire, who ran the 5-kilometer course in 21:52 to finish 46th.  Lark Mills, in her first action since a severe foot injury, ran her best time of her cut-short season (24:09) and finished 81st.  "Having Lark back was a tremendous boost for the team," added Coach Wajerski.  Megan Barrett (96th) and Christine McLaughlin (98th) rounded out the finishers for Lake Forest.  Wajerski was pleased with the results of his women's team; "It was the meet where you really try to put it all together and the women's team did just that.  Our goal was to finish seventh and we accomplished that goal."
For the men's race, freshman Joe Zemaitis led the way for LFC with a time of 28:50 for the 8-kilometer course.  He was followed just four places later by senior Ben Lampe (29:04, 39th place).  A trio of freshmen - Dexter Thornton (29:37, 47th), Charles Evans (30:29, 54th) and Zackary Warmack (30:47, 60th) - also scored team points for the Foresters.  Carlos Obando bested 19 runners on Saturday to finish in 65th place.  Obando's time of 31:14 was his career best, as was Thornton's time.
Coach Wajerski, although disappointed in the ninth place team finish, found bright spots after the meet; "I would have obviously liked to finish higher as a team.  We need to get someone in the top 15 or 20 in order to move up.  Dexter, Charles, Zack and Carlos all ran good races.  Dexter had a great approach to the meet and looked to catch as many runners as he could in the race.  Charles was once again consistent and Zack ran injured, but still managed to run a nice race.  And Carlos put himself in a position to score points for the team if we needed him to."
After the meet, Coach Wajerski named Thornton and Murillo the Lake Forest Runners of the Week.
Next Saturday the Foresters will compete in the NCAA Midwest Regional Meet (St. Louis, MO) for the first time in school history.
