Foresters Open Season at the Tom Barry Invitational
Kahiye Hassan places 14th in men’s 4-mile race

GREEN BAY, Wis. - The Lake Forest College cross country teams competed at St. Norbert College’s Tom Barry Invitational on Saturday (September 1). The Forester women placed eighth out of a dozen teams and the men ninth out of 11 at the event.

Sophomore Grace Schlafly (Naperville, Ill./Naperville Central) led the women’s team with a 42nd-place finish and 5-kilometer time of 23:14. She was followed by freshman Ryann Freeman (Northfield, Minn./Northfield) in 58th place (24:11) and Brecklind Galovich-Keie (East Jordan, Mich./ Charlevoix) in 59th (24:12). Juniors Sarah Marrinan (Sauk Rapids, Minn./Cathedral) and Kristen Beltrami (Arlington Heights, Ill./St. Viator) rounded out the team’s top five in 66th (24:37) and 79th (26:14) places.

The first Forester to finish the men’s 4-mile race was freshman Kahiye Hassan (Portland, Maine/Waynflete School) in 14th place with a time of 22:53. Sophomore John Thies (Los Angeles, Calif./Saint Francis) was 43rd in 24:58 and junior Andrew Hutchinson (Redwood City, Calif./ Sequoia) 58th in 25:44, just a place and two seconds ahead of classmate Levi Paul (Austin, Minn./ Governor Dummer). Freshman Michael Fredrick (Winnetka, Ill./Roycemore School) was fifth on the team in 77th place with a time of 27:00.

Lake Forest will travel to Chicago next Saturday (September 8) for North Park University’s Ted Hedstrand Invitational. The meet will be held at Foster Forest Preserve and will begin at 11:00 a.m.
