Runner Charles Evans Year's 1st Forester Athlete of the Week
LAKE FOREST - Men's cross country
runner Charles
Evans (Asheville, NC/Carolina Day School) has been named the first
Forester Athlete of the Week of the 2000-2001 athletic season. The Lake
Forest College Athletic Department selects the winner. Last Saturday (September
9th), Evans led the team to a 6th place finish (out of 12 teams) at the
Tom Barry Invitational in Green Bay, WI. His time of 23:27 for four miles
was good enough for 16th place among the 89 runners in the race.
What is especially amazing about
his performance is that he missed the entire 1999 season with a broken
foot. After watching his teammates while standing on one foot and leaning
on crutches last year, a great attitude and a lot of hard work has gotten
2000 off to a great start. Head Coach Mike
Wajerski noticed the attitude and made Evans one of the captains of
this year's squad. "Charles earned that position by coming to meets last
year even though he couldn't run, and by running so many miles over the
summer. Those kinds of things are what you look for in leaders. It's great
to have him back and running."
