Lake Forest Competes at North Park’s Ted Hedstrand Invitational
Kahiye Hassan matches 19th-fastest time in team history

CHICAGO, Ill. - The Forester cross country teams competed in the Ted Hedstrand Invitational, hosted by North Park University, on Saturday (September 8). Lake Forest’s men placed third and women fourth in the five-team event. UW-Oshkosh won both team competitions.

It was the first 8-kilometer race of the season for the Forester men. Freshman Kahiye Hassan (Portland, Maine/Waynflete School) led the squad with a 12th-place finish and time of 27:21, matching the 19th-fastest mark in program history. Sophomore John Thies (Los Angeles, Calif./Saint Francis) was next on the team in 25th place with a time of 28:57. Sophomore Levi Paul (Austin, Minn./Governor Dummer) was 33rd in 30:03, junior Andrew Hutchinson (Redwood City, Calif./Sequoia) 36th in 30:11, and freshman Gilbert Reynders (St. Louis, Mo./Chaminade College Prep) 38th in 30:43.

Sophomore Grace Schlafly (Naperville, Ill./Naperville Central) led the women’s team for the second straight week and placed 20th overall with a 5-kilometer time of 23:14. Sophomore Ashley Legel (DeKalb, Ill./Dundee Crown) was next in 30th place with a time of 24:52 and freshman Brecklind Golovich-Keie (East Jordan, Mich./Charlevoix) finished just one second later. Sophomore Sarah Marrinan (Sauk Rapids, Minn./Cathedral) made it three Foresters in a row in the race, crossing the line 12 seconds later. Junior Kristen Beltrami (Arlington Heights, Ill./St. Viator) rounded out the top five in 40th place with a time of 27:10.

The Foresters will compete on Friday (September 14) next week at Aurora University’s Spartan Classic. The competition will begin at 4:30 p.m.
