up in Rockford, Illinois, Dennis attended East Rockford High School.
He participated in track, football, swimming and golf.
Entering Lake Forest in 1950, he went on to earn four letters in football, one in golf and one in track. He was All-Conference his junior and senior years and was voted co-captain his senior year. Senior class vice president, he was also a member of the Lettermen's Club and Delta Chi, the fraternity that won the Intramural Championship his senior year. Graduating with a degree in economics, he entered the Army and served
in Germany. He then went to work for Precision Automotive Diesel,
Inc. in Rockford, where he retired as president.
