David Bleitner Earns Academic All-America Honors
Senior named to second team

David Bleitner can now add "Academic All-American" to his long list of awards.

LAKE FOREST, IL – Lake Forest College football player David Bletiner (St. Louis, MO/Vianney) was named to the ESPN The Magazine College Division Academic All-America Second Team Wednesday (December 1). He had earned First Team Academic All-District V College Division honors from CoSIDA (College Sports Information Directors of America) three weeks earlier, which placed him on the national ballot.

Bleitner, a business major, was also named Midwest Conference Defensive Player of the Year after leading the Foresters with 7.0 sacks and 13.0 tackles for loss. The senior defensive lineman recorded 52 tackles on the season, including 31 solos, and forced three fumbles.

Bleitner was also the MWC Defensive Player of the Year and earned First Team Academic All-District V College Division honors last season after setting school records with 15.5 sacks and 23.5 tackles for loss. He was a Second Team All-American selection by CoSIDA and Don Hansen’s Football Gazette and an Honorable Mention All-American choice by D3football.com. The Football Gazette also tabbed him as a First Team Preseason All-American this year.

He finished his Lake Forest career as the school record holder with 49.5 career tackles for loss and ranks second in the program’s history with 29 sacks.
