LAKE FOREST, IL -  A total of 115 players from 69 schools, including Lake Forest College's Casey Urlacher (Lovington, NM/Lovington), were named to the 2002 Hewlett Packard Division III All-America Football Team on Wednesday (December 18).

Urlacher, a senior linebacker for the Foresters, was chosen as the Midwest Conference's Defensive Player of the Year after leading the league in tackles for the second straight season. His 117 stops on the year are the fourth-most in school history. He also has the single season school record (125 in 2001) and the fifth-highest total (116 in 2000). In addition, the defensive team captain posted 19 tackles for loss, tied with linebackers coach Bernie Perconti for the second-highest total in the program's history, 2.0 sacks, an interception, three forced fumbles, three fumbles recovered, and a pair of fumble returns for touchdowns.

On the offensive side of the ball, Urlacher had 41 carries for 206 yards and a team-high eight touchdowns. He led the squad with 10 total touchdowns and was second on the team with 60 points.

He finished his Lake Forest career as the second-leading tackler (358) in school history and the program's record-holder for career tackles for loss (43).

The 25th annual, silver anniversary team was selected by a panel of 29 sports information directors representing the four playoff regions in NCAA Division III. Voters made first-, second-, and third-team selections with candidates receiving points on a 25-15-10 scale. In addition to the top three teams, players who received 100 or more points earned honorable mention status.

The ballot included 377 players representing 147 of the 228 NCAA Division III (non-scholarship) football-playing institutions. Teams with two or fewer losses were allowed five nominations; teams .500 or better could nominate up to three players; and schools finishing below .500 were allotted two nominations.
