Urlacher and Dunne eligible for All-American status

LAKE FOREST, IL -  The Football Gazette released its 2002 All-West Region Football Teams Wednesday (December 18) and three Lake Forest College seniors made the list. Kicker Pat Dunne (Palos Heights, IL/Marist) and linebacker Casey Urlacher (Lovington, NM/Lovington) were selected to the First Team while linebacker Kevin Krabel (Oakland, IL/Oakland) was named to the Third Team.

Dunne finished the season with 14 field goals, shattering the previous school record of six and trailing just two other kickers in the country. He matched his career-long with a game-winning 44-yarder with 3:46 remaining in the Foresters' 20-18 homecoming victory over Ripon College on September 28. Five weeks later, he connected on a school-record 50-yarder against Lawrence University. Dunne also set a single-season school record with 63 points as a kicker and holds or shares 16 of the program's kicking and punting records.

Urlacher was also named a Hewlett Packard First Team All-American, the Midwest Conference Defensive Player of the Year, and the Foresters' Most Valuable Player. He recorded 117 tackles on the season, the fourth-most in school history. He also added 19 tackles for loss, two sacks, an interception, three forced fumbles, three fumble recoveries, and a pair of fumble return touchdowns. Urlacher has tallied at least 100 tackles in each of his three years at Lake Forest, including a school-record 125 in 2001. He finished his career as the second-leading tackler in school history with 358 stops. He also recorded 43 career tackles for loss, more than any other Forester.

Krabel moved from outside to inside linebacker this season and finished second on the squad with 85 tackles. He led the team with 5.5 sacks and was third with 14 tackles for loss. He also intercepted two passes and forced three fumbles. Krabel was named to the National Team of the Week by D3football.com following his performance on October 19th when he recorded nine tackles, six tackles for loss, three-and-a-half sacks, and an interception against Illinois College.

Because they were recognized on the First Team, Dunne and Urlacher are also eligible for the publication's All-American Teams.

At 9-2, the Foresters set a school record for victories, claimed their first Midwest Conference championship since 1983, and made the program's first-ever appearance in the NCAA Playoffs.
