Dan Carter Breaks Foresters' Career Receiving Yardage Record in Loss at Knox
Team will host Carroll University in season finale next Saturday

GALESBURG, Ill. - The Lake Forest College football team fell 38-27 at Knox College Saturday afternoon (November 1). The Foresters fell to 3-6 overall this season and 3-5 in Midwest Conference play. The Prairie Fire raised their overall record to 3-6 and leage mark to 2-6.

Lake Forest started the contest with a 7-play, 71-yard drive that ended with a 1-yard carry into the end zone by sophomore running back Brock Stenberg (Grand Haven, Mich./Grand Haven). The other 46 yards on the drive came on a third-and-8 completion from sophomore quarterback Geoff Sobey (Mt. Prospect, Ill./Prospect) to junior wide receiver Dan Carter (Arlington Heights, Ill./St. Viator).

Knox responded with a 10-play, 53-yard touchdown drive to tie the score at seven.

The Foresters punted on their next possession but got the ball back when junior defenseive end Jaron Eanes (Cleveland, Ohio/Lake Forest Academy) forced and recovered a fumble at the Knox 48-yardline.

Lake Forest then turned the ball over on downs, setting up a 14-play, 66-yard Prairie Fire scoring drive that gave the home team a 14-7 lead with 8:35 remaining in the second quarter.

After the teams traded punts, Knox intercepted a pass at the Forester 34 and reached the end zone on the next play to take a 21-7 lead into the locker room at halftime.

The Prairie Fire started the second half with the ball but had it taken away by freshman safety Luke Butts' (Warrensburg, Ill./Warrensburg) first career interception at the Lake Forest 35. His 30-yard return put the Foresters in scoring position and they scored three plays later on a 24-yard completion from Sobey to Carter.

The teams traded punts once again before Knox marched 56 yards in a dozen plays and regained their two-score advantage on a 2-yard touchdown run just 35 seconds into the fourth quarter. The home team forced another Forester punt and scored again to extend its lead to 35-14 with 10:58 to play.

After being sacked at the Lake Forest 25, Sobey completed a 24-yard pass to Carter, a 32-yarder to junior Will Christensen (Park City, Utah/Park City), and a 19-yard touchdown toss to Carter to cut the deficit to 35-21 with 9:49 left.

Knox chewed up nearly six minutes off the clock on its next possession and made took a 38-21 lead on a 24-yard field goal with 3:49 remaining.

The Foresters drove 72 yards in 11 plays and scored the final points of the game on a 16-yard touchdown pass from Sobey to Carter. It was the second time in Carter's career that he caught three touchdowns in a single game and, during the final drive, he passed Nick Hildreth '05 for first place in team history with 2,325 career receiving yards. Carter has seven touchdown catches this year and a school record 29 in his career.

Lake Forest was unable to recover the onside kick and the home team ran out the clock for the victory.

Sobey finished the game with career-high 269 passing yards and three touchdowns. Stenberg rushed for a team-high 73 yards on 13 carries and Christensen had three receptions for 54 yards.

Butts led the Forester defense with a career-high 13 tackles, including eight solos and two behind the line of scrimmage. Eanes and senior safety Matt Lawler (Chicago, Ill./St. Rita) added nine stops apiece.

Lake Forest will close out the season next Saturday (November 8) at 1:00 p.m. against visiting Carroll University. A live video webcast of the game will be available at www.midwestconference.tv.
