Fitzgerald Named to Verizon Academic All-District First Team
Wide receiver and economics major maintains a 3.73 GPA 
  

Mike Fitzgerald has been a standout on the football field and in the classroom.
LAKE FOREST, IL -  Forester football player Mike Fitzgerald (Aurora, CO/Kent) was named to the 2002 Verizon Academic All-America College Division Football All-District V First Team Thursday (November 14). He was one of just two wide receivers selected to the district's first team and will now advance to the national ballot.

Through the regular season, the senior and offensive team captain has 54 receptions for 762 yards and eight touchdowns. He has also returned a school-record 29 punts for 229 yards. He was selected to the Midwest Conference's Second Team on Tuesday (November 12).

The Foresters have won a school-record nine games this season against just one loss and are headed to the NCAA Playoffs for the first time in the program's history. Lake Forest defeated St. Norbert College 17-0 Saturday (November 9) to earn a share of the conference championship, its first since 1983.

Fitzgerald has excelled off the football field as well. The economics major maintains a 3.73 grade point average and has made the Dean's List every year. He earned the Kappa Sigma Outstanding Scholar Award and was an Academic All-Conference selection in both 2000 and 2001.

After graduating in May, Fitzgerald plans on attending graduate school next fall.
