Knox Contains Lake Forest, 10-6, in Defensive Struggle
Casey Urlacher records 19 tackles in losing effort

GALESBURG, IL - Knox College outlasted visiting Lake Forest College, 10-6, on Saturday (November 4th) in a Midwest Conference football contest.

Knox (2-7, 2-6) won their first home game of the season, while Lake Forest (3-6, 3-5) lost for the third straight game.

The Prairie Fire held the league's top rushing team to 133 yards rushing on 44 carries (3.0 yards/carry), while racking up 314 yards of total offense, including 236 through the air.

Knox jumped out to a 7-0 lead with 5:32 remaining in the first quarter when Mike Erwin hit Jesse Abbot for a 40-yard touchdown pass.

Tom Starnicky's (Oak Lawn, IL/Marist) three-yard touchdown run capped off a 13-play, 80-yard drive for Lake Forest that pulled them within a point. But Eric Bauer's (Clinton Township, MI/Chippewa Valley) extra point failed and Knox retained their lead. Bauer was replacing injured starter and All-Conference kicker Pat Dunne (Chicago, IL/Marist).

Knox added a 41-yard field goal early in the fourth quarter and held on for the win.

LF quarterback Andy Heikes (Palos Hills, IL/Stagg) was 10-of-26 passing for 143 yards with one interception. He also added 40 yards rushing and spread the ball to five different receivers.

Erwin led Knox with 181 yards passing.

Casey Urlacher (Lake Bluff, IL/Lovington (NM)) recorded a season-high 19 tackles (seven solo, 12 assists) with three tackles for loss, a forced fumble, and a sack for Lake Forest on Saturday. Fellow middle linebacker Andy O'Hara (South Bend, IN/Riley) had 15 tackles (2 solo, 13 assists).

The Foresters will conclude their 2000 season this coming Saturday (November 11th) when they travel to Carroll College (WI) for a 1:00 kick-off with the Pioneers.
