Jeff Huebner Sets School Records as Lake Forest Closes Out 2005 Season
Senior receiver becomes program’s only player to amass 1,000 receiving yards in a season

Jeff Huebner turned in the most productive season by a wide receiver in team history.
LAKE FOREST, IL – The Lake Forest College football team closed out the 2005 season with a 56-14 loss to St. Norbert College. The Foresters finish the season with an overall record of 4-6 while the Green Knights finish their campaign with an 8-2 overall mark.

The visitors got on the scoreboard first just four minutes into the contest, but Lake Forest answered late in the first period to knot the score at seven after freshman quarterback Mike McNally (Orland Park, IL/Carl Sandburg ) hit senior wide receiver Jeff Huebner (Antioch, IL/Antioch) for a 46-yard touchdown catch. Huebner’s grab was the 18th of his career, which tied the school record.

Huebner later broke that record after he caught a 12-yard touchdown pass from junior quarterback Matt Mahaney (West Chicago, IL/Addison Driscoll) with 4:47 to play in the half. That catch marked the 19th touchdown of Huebner’s career, and also matched the school record for most receiving touchdowns in a season (12).

The Green Knights held a 28-14 advantage at the intermission, and added another score on their first drive of the third period before the game was halted for nearly 45 minutes due to lightning. After the delay, St. Norbert scored two more times in the third, and another in the fourth to record the 56-14 win.

Offensively, both teams nearly had the same number of passing yards, with the visitors finishing with a 254-252 edge. Mahaney connected on 10 of 18 passes for 173 yards and McNally hit six of 14 targets for 79 yards. Both quarterbacks looked for Huebner all afternoon, who finished the game with nine catches for 171 yards, and he finishes the season as the only player in school history to amass 1,000 or more receiving yards in a season.

Senior running back Andre Washington (West Palm Beach, FL/Benjamin) led the team 47 yards, with 30 of them coming on carry early in the second quarter.

Defensively, a pair of seniors and a sophomore each tallied game-high 10 tackles for the Foresters. Keith Hanson (Fairfax, VA/Vermont Academy) and Soren Johnson (Ripon, WI/Ripon) each had 10 stops and Hanson recorded one behind the line of scrimmage. Meanwhile, Edward Kidd (Round Lake, IL/Buffalo Grove), a sophomore, also had ten tackles and added a fumble recovery, an interception, and assisted on a sack.

Lake Forest will lose 11 seniors to graduation in the spring. In their four years, the team has won 28 games, the second most by a class in school history.
