LAKE FOREST, IL – Lake Forest College football players Keith Hanson (Fairfax, VA/Vermont Academy) and Kyle Wetzel (Sarasota, FL/Cardinal Mooney) were named Midwest Conference Defensive and Special Teams Performers of the Week, respectively, on Monday (October 10). They helped the Foresters defeat Knox College 28-14 on Saturday (October 8).

Hanson, a senior, picked off a pair of passes in the game and has a team-high five interceptions on the season. He returned the first one 13 yards and the second 45 yards for a touchdown. However, a holding penalty negated the score and, officially, 13 yards of his return. Hanson also recorded five tackles in the contest, including one behind the line of scrimmage, and added a blocked field goal.

Wetzel, a freshman, scored his first career touchdown in the game’s opening quarter by grabbing a fumble from the Prairie Fire punter and sprinting 37 yards to the end zone. The score and ensuing extra point gave the Foresters a school record 28 points in the period. He also added a pair of special teams tackles in the contest.

Midwest Conference Performers of the Week are selected by the league’s sports information director.
