LAKE FOREST, Ill. - The Forester football team was defeated 51-14 by Monmouth College on Saturday (October 24). Lake Forest fell to 2-6 overall on the season and 2-5 in Midwest Conference play. The Fighting Scots, ranked ninth in the country by D3football.com, is still undefeated after eight games, including seven MWC contests.

With 13 receptions for 167 yards and two touchdowns, Forester senior wide receiver Dan Carter (Arlington Heights, Ill./St. Viator) accounted for the majority of the home team's offense. His third catch of the game made him the first player in team history with 200 career receptions.

Unfortunately for Lake Forest, neither of Carter's touchdown receptions came in the first half as the home team fell behind 35-0 at halftime.

The Foresters got on the scoreboard on their first possession of the third quarter. After four carries for 13 yards by sophomore Maurice White (Miami, Fla./Dade Christian School) and a Carter catch for seven yards, the team faced fourth-and-one on the Monmouth 41-yardline. Junior quarterback Geoff Sobey (Mt. Prospect, Ill./Prospect) then found Carter deep down the left sideline for the touchdown.

Lake Forest sophomore safety Luke Butts (Warrensburg, Ill./Warrensburg), who entered the game with four takeaways (3 interceptions, 1 fumble recovery) in as many contests, made it five in five games with an interception in the end zone to end the Scots' next possession. However, a fumbled snap backed up the Foresters from their own 4-yardline to the one and set up a Monmouth safety on the next play.

Senior safety Will Christensen (Park City, Utah/Park City) registered another end zone interception, his second pick of the season, on the ensuing drive.

After five consecutive possessions ended with punts, Monmouth scored touchdowns on two of three drives to extend their lead to 51-7 with 3:04 left in the contest.

The Foresters converted on their final possession of the game, a 7-play, 70-yard drive that included three completions to Carter, including one from three yards out for the score with 34 seconds left on the clock.

Sobey finished the game with 236 yards passing, two touchdowns, and no interceptions. White led the home team with 72 rushing yards on 13 carries.

Butts and senior linebacker Donovan Baldridge (St. Louis, Mo./Chaminade) recorded a team-high 13 tackles each and another senior linebacker, Chad Zimborski (Waukesha, Wis./Waukesha North), added a dozen stops. Junior linebacker Anthony Garetto (Orland Park, Ill./Marist) chipped in with eight tackles and forced a third-quarter fumble that was recovered by Baldridge.

Lake Forest will try to rebound next Saturday (October 31) against visiting Knox College. The game will begin at 1:00 p.m. and a live video webcast of the contest will be available at www.pennatlantic.com.
