Foresters Fall 13-7 to Carroll College
Holman's three interceptions ties school record

Drew Holman picked off three passes to tie the school record.
LAKE FOREST, IL - The Lake Forest football team suffered its second loss of the season Saturday (October 25), a 13-6 decision against Carroll College. The Midwest Conference loss drops Lake Forest to 5-2 overall and 4-2 in the league. Carroll is 2-6 overall and 2-5 in the MWC.

After a scoreless first quarter, junior defensive back Drew Holman (Morris, IL/ Morris) recorded his first interception of the afternoon at the Lake Forest 39 and returned it eight yards. Starting from his own 47, senior quarterback Don Lackey (Lindenhurst, IL/Antioch) rushed for a couple of yards, completed a 13-yard pass, and was sacked for a loss of 10 yards. He then connected with junior wide receiver Nick Hildreth (Lombard, IL/Willowbrook), who broke a tackle and turned a short completion into a 48-yard touchdown. After a successful extra point, the Foresters held a 7-0 advantage with 3:46 left in the half.

Hildreth finished the game with seven catches for 101 yards. It was his second consecutive 100-yard game and he leads the team with 30 receptions for 446 yards this season. He is also tied for third place in the program's history with 105 career receptions and is just 14 shy of the school record.

On Carroll's ensuing possession, Holman intercepted another Pioneer pass at the Forester 27. However, a Lake Forest fumble gave the possession back to the visitors with 1:57 left in the half. On a second-and-10 from the Forester 30, sophomore Keith Hanson (Fairfax, VA/Chantilly) notched the third interception of the quarter for the home team when he picked off his second pass of the season at the 16. Lake Forest took a 7-0 lead into the intermission after each team failed to score on its last drive of the half.

Both teams were forced to punt to start the third quarter and Carroll was unable to convert on a fourth-and-one from the Lake Forest 21 to end another Pioneer drive. Following a Hildreth 14-yard reception, the Foresters were forced to punt again. Carroll's Adam Fletcher fielded the kick on the run and returned it 61 yards for the score, tying the score with 5:29 left in the quarter.

With 3:23 remaining in the contest, Holman tied a school record with his third interception. He is only the fourth player in school history to achieve the mark and the first since the 1983 season.

Three incomplete passes forced Lake Forest to punt again. Starting from its own 40, Carroll used 10 plays to march 60 yards for the game-winning touchdown.

Defensively, linebackers Omar Pickering (Mount Vernon, NY/Port Chester) and Louis Bertuca (Chicago, IL/Fenwick) tallied a dozen tackles apiece and senior Tom Starnicky (Oak Lawn, IL/Marist) finished with 10 stops, including two behind the line of scrimmage.

Lake Forest will travel to Lawrence University next Saturday (November 1) and will honor its 15 seniors the following Saturday (November 8) when they host fellow conference champion St. Norbert College.
