October 8, 2002 Contact: Mike Wajerski, SID Omar Pickering Named MWC Defensive Player of the
Week
Lake Forest held Monmouth to just a field goal and forced the Fighting Scots into seven turnovers. It marked the least number of points scored by a Forester opponent since a 6-0 shutout of Lawrence University in 1989. Pickering tallied a game-high 12 tackles in the win, including eight solos and one for loss. The sophomore linebacker also added an interception, his second of the season. He is the team's fourth player to earn player of the week honors from the conference and the second to do so on the defensive side of the ball. Pickering is second on the squad with 43 tackles this season, including 23 solo stops. He is tied for the team-lead with two interceptions and tied for second on the team with seven tackles for loss. He has also four pass breakups, a fumble recovery, and a blocked kick. Midwest Conference Players of the Week are selected by the league's
sports information directors.
