LAKE FOREST, IL - Lake Forest College football player Omar Pickering (Mount Vernon, NY/Port Chester) was named Midwest Conference Defensive Player of the Week Tuesday (October 8) for his contributions to the Foresters' 27-3 victory Saturday (October 5) at Monmouth College. The win raised Lake Forest's overall record on the year to 5-0 and its MWC mark to 4-0. The last time the Foresters began a season with five consecutive victories was in 1938.

Lake Forest held Monmouth to just a field goal and forced the Fighting Scots into seven turnovers. It marked the least number of points scored by a Forester opponent since a 6-0 shutout of Lawrence University in 1989.

Pickering tallied a game-high 12 tackles in the win, including eight solos and one for loss. The sophomore linebacker also added an interception, his second of the season. He is the team's fourth player to earn player of the week honors from the conference and the second to do so on the defensive side of the ball.

Pickering is second on the squad with 43 tackles this season, including 23 solo stops. He is tied for the team-lead with two interceptions and tied for second on the team with seven tackles for loss. He has also four pass breakups, a fumble recovery, and a blocked kick.

Midwest Conference Players of the Week are selected by the league's sports information directors.
