Lake Forest Defeated in Conference Opener by Host Ripon College
Anthony Garetto leads team for the second straight week with 11 tackles

LAKE FOREST, Ill. - The Forester football team fell 14-3 at Ripon College on Saturday (September 13) in the Midwest Conference opener for both teams. Lake Forest is now 0-2 overall this season while the Red Hawks raised their record to 1-1.

The teams scored all of their points in the game's first three possessions. Ripon received the opening kickoff and a 33-yard pass play to the end zone concluded an 8-play, 51-yard drive.

The Foresters responded with a 6-play, 25-yard drive that resulted in a 27-yard field goal by sophomore Tim Gruzwalski (Oakland, Mich./Stoney Creek). A 48-yard kickoff return by freshman Maurice White (Miami, Fla./Dade Christian School) set up the scoring opportunity.

The Red Hawks then traveled 61 yards in seven plays and took a 14-3 lead on a 2-yard run with 4:36 to play in the period.

Lake Forest reached the Ripon 10 yard line early in the second period and the home team missed a 39-yard field goal later in the quarter. Ripon also turned the ball over on downs at the Forester 7 on its first possession of the second half and missed a 32-yard field goal with 13:22 to play in the contest.

Forester sophomore quarterbacks Geoff Sobey (Mt. Prospect, Ill./Prospect) and John Chwarzynski (Park Ridge, Ill./Maine South) combined to complete 17 of 24 pass attempts for 89 yards. Chwarzynski was the team's leading rusher with 44 yards and junior Will Christensen (Park City, Utah/Park City) caught a game-high eight passes for 42 yards.

Sophomore linebacker Anthony Garetto (Orland Park, Ill./Marist) led the visitors with 11 tackles for the second consecutive week. Senior safety Matt Lawler (Chicago, Ill./St. Rita) was next on the squad with nine. Junior linebacker Chad Zimborski (Waukesha, Wis./Waukesha North) recorded his third career interception.

The Foresters will host Illinois College on Alumni Day next Saturday (September 20). Kickoff will be at 1:00 p.m. and a live video webcast of the game will be available at www.midwestconference.tv.
