The home team jumped out to the early lead on a 64-yard touchdown pass on the game’s first possession and connected on a 19-yard pass play later in the first period to take a 14-0 advantage. The Blueboys also scored touchdowns on two of their first three possessions of the second quarter extending the lead to 27-0. Lake Forest finally got on the scoreboard by driving 71 yards in 13 plays late in the first half. Sophomore Jeff Waldman (St. Louis, Mo./Clayton) crossed the goal line on a 2-yard run and classmate Will Christensen (Park City, Utah/Park City) caught four passes for 43 yards on the drive. The extra point attempt was wide and the score was 27-6 at halftime. Illinois College kicked a field goal on its first possession of the second half, increasing the deficit facing the Foresters to 30-6. After a 56-yard kickoff return by Lake Forest senior Ed Kidd (Round Lake, Ill./Buffalo Grove), the visitors completed a 6-play, 39-yard drive with an 8-yard touchdown carry by sophomore Sam Kotler (Fountain Valley, Calif./Fountain Valley). The extra point cut the difference to 30-13. The Blueboys finished off the scoring with a 19-yard touchdown carry late in the third quarter. Christensen led the Forester offense with a career-high 13 receptions for 110 yards. Sophomores Chad Zimborski (Waukesha, Wis./Waukesha North) and Lorenzo Ramirez (Denver, Colo./Kent Denver) paced the defense with seven tackles apiece. Two of Zimborski’s stops occurred behind the line of scrimmage and Ramirez added an interception. Junior Matt Lawler (Chicago, Ill./St. Rita) picked off a pair of Illinois College passes. Kidd finished the day with four kick returns for 109 yards and a punt return for 36. Senior Justin Ellerman (Chicago, Ill./Loyola) averaged 48.8 yards on four punts and now owns a 43.3 yard average on the season. Lake Forest will return home to face St. Norbert College next Saturday (September 22) at 1:30 p.m.
