Midwest Conference announces updated football schedule.

Ripon, WI -  The Midwest Conference (MWC) announced today that they will complete their ten-game football schedule during the 2001 season following a postponement of last weekend's MWC contests.

The MWC champion will be determined by an eight-game conference schedule, which will conclude with the final league games on Nov. 10. At that time a league chapmion will be crowned and receive the automatic qualification to the NCAA playoffs, the remaining nine institutions will make up their postponed league games from Sept. 15, but only as a non-conference contest.  The games played on Nov. 17 will count in overall records but not in league standings.

The tem that was to play the eventual league champion will be allowed to play an additional game against a non-MWC opponent.

The MWC allows each member to play ten football games a season; one non-conference contest or scrimmage and nine league-sanctioned games. Following last week's tragedy in New York and Washington, league officials postponed all MWC competition for the weekend.

This decision by the MWC follows a memo from the NCAA today granting all Division I, II and III a waiver allowing them to extend their season one week past the traditional playing segment.  As of today, the chapmpionship date for NCAA Div. III football will remain as originally scheduled.

MWC volleyball and men's and women's soccer will play their entire league schedule after rescheduling last weekend's events is complete. For an up-to-date listing of each sport's composite schedule, log on to www.midwestconference.org.
