September 22, 1999 Contact: Scott Rucker, SID In Lake Forest's 42-14 win over visiting Monmouth last Saturday, Clark recorded 11 total tackles, including one for loss and two half sacks. Clark also recovered a fumble and returned it 10 yards for a touchdown on Monmouth's first possession of the second half, then forced a fumble on Monmouth's next possession that led to another Lake Forest touchdown and broke the game open. He helped Lake Forest's defense hold Monmouth to 267 total yards of offense and 139 rushing yards. The Forester defense has only given up two scores in the first two games. Smith, in his second collegiate game, rushed for 109 yards on 14 carries (7.8 yards per carry) and a touchdown last weekend. He became the first Forester freshman to rush for over 100 yards in a game since John Klasen, Lake Forest's all-time leading rusher, did so in 1992. Smith also caught one pass for 17 yards and returned two kick-offs for 55 yards. Lake Forest is 2-0 for the first time since 1985 and faces defending MWC champion Grinnell on the road this Saturday at 2:00pm. |
