GRINNELL, IA -  The Lake Forest College football team traveled to Grinnell, IA Saturday (September 22nd) to take on the Pioneers in the Midwest Conference opener for both teams. Thanks to a 21-point fourth quarter, Grinnell came away with the 41-24 win.

Sophomore quarterback Don Lackey (Lindenhurst, IL/Antioch) connected on exactly half of his 32 pass attempts and tallied 186 yards through the air. He also threw the first two touchdown passes of his Forester career against just one interception.

On the receiving end of one Lackey's scoring strikes was junior Mike Fitzgerald (Aurora, CO/Kent), who led the team with five catches for 65 yards and the one touchdown. The other touchdown reception was a 10-yard completion to sophomore Nick Rossie (Deerfield, IL/Deerfield).

Sophomore running backs Adam Niles (Lake Villa, IL/ Antioch) and Tom Starnicky (Oak Lawn, IL/Marist) rushed for 55 and 44 yards, respectively, to lead the team in that category.

On the defensive side of the ball, junior Casey Urlacher (Lake Bluff, IL/Lovington-NM) and sophomore Gary Wojdyla (Villa Park, IL/Willowbrook) led the team with nine tackles each. The highlight on defense was the 70-yard touchdown scored by senior nose tackle C.P. Lehr (Belleville, IL/Belleville West) after recovering a Grinnell fumble.

The Foresters will look to put this game behind them when they travel to Beloit College next Saturday (September 29th) for a 2:00 game. Beloit was defeated in its MWC opener on Saturday as well. Lake Forest has defeated the Buccaneers in four of the last five seasons.
