Foresters’ Comeback Bid at St. Norbert College Denied
Team hosts Beloit for Homecoming next Saturday

Lorenzo Ramirez
De Pere, Wis. - The Lake Forest College football team dropped a 14-7 decision at St. Norbert College on Saturday (September 23) and fell to 0-4 overall and 0-3 in Midwest Conference play this season. The Green Knights raised their overall record to 4-0 and league mark to 3-0.

Junior quarterback Jeff Ziemnik (Oswego, Ill./Oswego) led the visitors with 50 yards rushing. He also completed 12 of 22 passes for 135 yards and a touchdown. He did not throw an interception. Freshman Dan Carter (Arlington Heights, Ill./St. Viator) caught four passes for a game-high 81 yards and a score, his third of the year.

Senior Louis Bertuca (Chicago, Ill./Fenwick) paced the defense with six tackles. Fellow senior Michael Karner (Winthrop Harbor, Ill./Zion Benton) recovered a Green Knight fumble and both freshman Lorenzo Ramirez (Denver, Colo./Kent Denver) and senior Keith Hanson (Fairfax, Va./Vermont Academy) picked off a pass.

St. Norbert scored the game’s first touchdown late in the first quarter and added another in the second. The Foresters punted on each of their first five possessions and ran out of time in the half on their sixth. The home team punted twice and turned it over twice before intermission.

Neither team was able to score in the third quarter. The Ramirez’ first career interception late in the period at the Lake Forest 45 set up the Foresters’ only scoring drive of the game. Ziemnik connected with Carter from 22 yards out to cap it off.

Lake Forest reached the St. Norbert 46-yard line on its next possession but turned the ball over on downs.

The Forester defense held the Green Knights to their lowest scoring output since the 2002 season finale. The home team gained just 61 yards and recorded three first downs after halftime.

Lake Forest will host Beloit College for Homecoming next Saturday (September 30) at 1:30 p.m.
