FORESTERS TO OPEN SEASON AT CHICAGO
The much-anticipated 1999 Lake Forest College football season will kick-off this Saturday when the Foresters travel to University of Chicago.  The Foresters lost to Chicago 22-6 at home last season.  Head Coach Randy Moore, who will send out 16 seniors amongst his starters, is anxious to get started, "I think we're ready to play football.  We've been banging each other for awhile and have remained relatively healthy, but we're ready for a game.  And Chicago will be a good opponent for us."  Chicago finished last season with a 7-2 record and won their conference, the University Athletic Association.
Moore's Foresters are coming off the school's best record (4-6) since 1986 and are looking for even great things this year.  "This year's team will be more experienced, have more depth, and more of an understanding of what it takes to play football at a high level.  I think we'll be ready to compete this year, but most importantly, being senior-orientated, we're hungrier and should play with a sense of urgency.  And our most urgent task right now is Chicago on Saturday."
Moore is expecting a tightly contested contest on Saturday; "Chicago is a well coached football team.  They have a strong nucleus of players back from their offensive line and have replaced their skill position players with more good athletes.  They have big play capabilities on offense.  The experience and strength of their team lies on the defensive side of the football, especially Dan Phillips, who will be one of the best linebackers we will play all season."
Coach Moore likes the progress his team has made during fall workouts.  "We've been able to make some positive strides this pre-season," Moore added.  "Quarterback Tom Dranger has become much more comfortable running the offense.  John Litscher (tight end) and Brian Woods (offensive line), who has switched back to offense this season, have had good pre-seasons.  And our young running backs have been impressive.  Our defense has a lot of experience returning.  Jay Biondo, Dustin Cassady and Zach Sharkey have been playing well, along with a strong core of linebackers."  Moore also had praise for transfer Pat Dunne as a nice addition to the special teams.
Saturday's kick-off is scheduled for 1:00 at Stagg Field in Chicago.
