Season Opens with Loss to the University of Chicago
Tough first half puts game out of reach

CHICAGO, IL -  For the fourth consecutive year, the Lake Forest College football team began its season with a non-conference game against the University of Chicago. Saturday (September 8th), for the third time in those four years, the Maroons came out on top, winning 34-3.

Chicago's Brian Gutbrod caught three touchdown passes from Josh Dunn in the game, including one at the end of each of their first two possessions. The Maroons amassed 217 yards passing and rushed for the same amount. Chicago scored touchdowns on their first three possessions and at the end of four of their five first-half drives, taking a 27-3 lead into the locker room at intermission.

The only Lake Forest score of the game came on a 31-yard field goal off the foot of junior kicker/punter Pat Dunne (Palos Heights, IL/Marist) on the Foresters' second possession. The offense had some success moving the ball, but could not finish off drives. Not including the field goal, five Lake Forest possessions ended inside the Chicago 40-yard line. Sophomore running back Tom Starnicky (Oak Lawn, IL/Marist) rushed for 83 yards in the contest on just 11 carries.

Junior middle linebacker Casey Urlacher (Lake Bluff, IL/Lovington-NM) led the defense with nine tackles, including four behind the line of scrimmage.

The Foresters will look to rebound next Saturday (September 15th) when they open their Midwest Conference season with a home game against Monmouth College at 1:30 pm. Last year Lake Forest notched their first win of the season at Monmouth by a score of 30-13.
