Inducted 1988 Growing up in Glen Ellyn, Illinois, George attended Glenbard High School and participated in four years of football. He entered Lake Forest College in 1934 and earned one letter each in basketball and baseball and four in football. Captain and Little All-America in his senior year, George, a member of Kappa Sigma and the L.F. Club, also held the title of intramural golf champion three consecutive years. Graduating in 1938 with a major in business administration, he accepted a position with American Can Company and shortly thereafter married his college sweetheart Betty Ritzler '40. In 1942 George entered the U.S. Navy and served aboard the USS Lyman as a gunnery officer in the Pacific theatre until the end of the war. In 1945 he returned to American Can serving in numerous managerial positions until his retirement in 1976. A trustee of the Hooperston, Indiana Presbyterian Church and chairman of the towns Citizens Committee. He also served with distinction as an officer and board member of the L. White Boys Club in Madison, Indiana, and as a state appointed Commissioner on the Indiana Environmental Commission.
