Lake Forest Players Claim Seven Divisional Titles at Circle City
Carly Stickles claims Open Singles and Doubles championships

INDIANAPOLIS, IN - The Forester handball team competed in the Circle City Tournament over the weekend (February 11-13). Lake Forest College players claimed titles in seven of the event’s 11 divisions, including all four on the women’s side.

Freshman Carly Stickles (Ridgeway, ON) defeated three teammates along the way to her Open Singles championship. She knocked off junior Clare Longfellow (Wilmette, IL) in the quarterfinals, senior Tina Koludrovic (Darien, IL) in the semifinals, and senior Danielle White (Monastery, NS) 21-13, 21-7 in the title match. Danielle White defeated junior Melissa Peters (Buffalo Grove, IL) in the quarterfinals and her sister Michelle White (Monastery, NS) in the semis. Koludrovic and Michelle White eliminated sophomores Lindsay Ross (Springfield, IL) and Lisa Jeziorny (Orland Park, IL), respectively, in their quarterfinal matches.

Junior Kim Lawser (West Chester, PA) fell to Peters in the round of 16 before winning a pair of matches to claim the A-Singles title.

Stickles and Danielle White teamed up to defeat Koludrovic and Jeziorny 21-7, 21-6 in the Open Doubles final. Ross and Michelle White prevailed in the A-Doubles final over Peters and Longfellow.

On the men’s side, junior Ivan Ruiz (Los Angeles, CA) and senior Tyler Stevens (Toledo, OH) each won once in the Open Singles bracket before falling in the quarterfinals.

Senior Garrett Silveira (S. Hadley, MA) knocked off junior Derek Meiring (Carleton, MI) 21-6, 21-4 in the final of the A-Singles division. Freshman Mike Mehilos (Addison, IL) triumphed over senior Dan McNabney (Moro, IL) 21-20, 8-21, 11-9 in the final of the B-Singles division.

In C-Singles, freshman Kevin Jarvis (Chicago, IL) won three times before falling 21-13, 21-16 in the final. Classmate Joe Grubisic (Chicago, IL) won a pair of matches to reach the semifinals and seniors Marty Quinn (Evergreen Park, IL) and Victor Pacheco (Highland Park, IL) triumphed once before dropping their quarterfinal matches.

Meiring and McNabney claimed a 21-4, 21-5 victory in the final of the B-Doubles division. The duo had knocked off Mehilos and Jarvis 21-9, 21-15 in the semifinals. Pacheco and Quinn won twice en route to a runner-up finish in C-Doubles.

The Foresters will compete in the Illinois Handball Association Doubles Tournaments next weekend (February 17-19).
