Two More Open Titles at IHA Doubles Tournament For the second straight weekend, seniors Megan Mehilos (Addison, IL) and Samantha England (Prince George, British Columbia) claimed the women’s Open Doubles title. The duo won each of its three matches in two games and surrendered a total of just 18 points in the tournament. On the men’s side, senior David Munson (Williston, VT) and sophomore Ivan Ruiz (Los Angeles, CA) needed three games to win both their semifinal and championship matches. After winning game one of the title match 21-15, they dropped the second 21-2. Trailing 10-9 in the tiebreaker, they scored the last two points for an 11-10 triumph. Junior Marty Quinn (Evergreen Park, IL) and sophomore Derek Meiring (Carleton, MI) won four times to claim the B-Division title. They won 20-21, 21-12, 11-2 in the finals. Senior Dan McNabney (Moro, IL) and sophomore Rob Burda (Meridian, ID) needed a pair of two-game victories to claim the championship in the C-Division. Senior Sarah Roberts (Plainfield, IL) and junior Danielle White (Nova Scotia, Canada) reached the semifinals of the women’s Open Division before falling to Mehilos and England. In the women’s A-Division, juniors Michelle White (Nova Scotia, Canada) and Tina Koludrovic (Darien, IL) also reached the semifinals. The tournament was a final tune-up before the upcoming United States
Handball Association Collegiate National Championships, which begin
on Wednesday (February 25). By Sunday the team hopes to claim its fifth
consecutive combined title.
