David Munson claimed the title he just missed last year.
INDIANAPOLIS, IN - The Lake Forest College handball team participated in the Circle City Tournament this weekend (January 31-February 2) and fared rather well. Individual Foresters reached the finals in six of the seven divisions.

In the Men's Open Singles competition, junior David Munson (Williston, VT) claimed the title after falling in the championship to Bill Mehilos '02 a year ago. Munson also teamed with freshman Ivan Ruiz (Los Angeles, CA) to prevail in Open Doubles.

In the Men's "B" Singles, junior Garrett Silveira (S. Hadley, MA) knocked off senior teammate Derrick Tiveron (Toronto, Ontario) in the semifinals but was defeated in the championship match. Junior Megan Mehilos (Addison, IL) was permitted to compete in the men's division and was also eliminated by the eventual champion in the semifinals.

Freshman Derek Meiring (Carleton, MI) swept through the competition in the "C" Singles division to claim the title.

In the Women's Open Singles tournament, junior Samantha England (Prince George, British Columbia) fell to Tanya Lazaro '98 in the championship. Seniors Megan Gibson (Brown Deer, WI) and Amy Sove (Modesto, CA) also reached the semifinals.

The Women's Open Doubles title was also taken by Lazaro, who partnered with Allison Roberts '91. They defeated Mehilos and Sove in the championship match.

Lake Forest will host the Men's Invitational Doubles Tournament next weekend (February 7-8). Two weeks later (February 19-23), the Foresters will be in Portland, Oregon for the United States Handball Association National Collegiate Championships.
