INDIANAPOLIS, IN - Both the Lake Forest College men's and women's handball teams found success at the Circle City Tournament in Indianapolis, IN over the weekend (February 2nd-4th). Bill Mehilos (Addison, IL) won in singles and doubles. In the Open singles tournament, he upset the number one seed, Casey Mayo of Cincinnati, OH, in the finals, 21-10, 21-11. Immediately following his singles championship, Mehilos took the court with partner Mike Munson (Williston, VT) for the Open doubles championship match. After dropping the first game, 21-6, to Mike Panko and Brian Neveau, the Forester pair squeeked out a 21-19 game two victory and then cruised, 11-2, in the tie-breaker. Megan Mehilos (Addison, IL) advanced to the semi-finals in the Men's B singles competition before bowing out to the eventual champion, Alex Maye of Champaign, IL. Megan and her doubles partner, Erica Sove (Modesto, CA), won the Men's C doubles bracket with a thrilling tie-breaker match against Chuck McOscar and Glen Gartland, 21-9, 8-21, 11-8. In the Men's B doubles tournament, Derrick Tiveron (Toronto, Ontario) and Shane Vigen (Edmonton, Alberta) lost in the finals to John and Andy Areem of Lexington, KY by a final of 21-20, 21-16. In the Women's Open singles, Samantha England (Prince Grove, British Columbia) fell in the championship match to Holly Jonely of Oliver Spring, TN in a tie-breaker match, 21-5, 12-21, 11-2. The Women's B singles final was an all-Lake Forest affair with Amy Sove (Modesto, CA) besting a fast-improving Megan Gibson (Brown Deer, WI), 21-1, 21-15. Next up for the Foresters is the Bloomingdale Doubles Tournamnet on February 9th-10th, which will be the team's final competition before Intercolliegiates.
