Lake Forest Claims Three of Four Open Division Championships at Circle City
Aimee Ulbert wins titles in singles and doubles for the third straight year

INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. - The Forester handball team competed at the Circle City Tournament in Indianapolis over the weekend (February 6-8). Lake Forest College players claimed three of the four Open Division titles and fared well in several of the lower brackets.

Junior Aimee Ulbert (Des Plaines, Ill.) claimed the event's Women's Open Singles and Doubles titles for the third year in a row. In singles she won all three matches in the round robin format and she teamed with classmate Emily Zender (Fishers, Ind.) in doubles for the second straight season.

The Foresters' other Open titles came in men's singles, where junior Suhn Lee (Glenview, Ill.) knocked off Lake Forest alumni Dave Munson (21-16, 21-6) and Bill Mehilos (13-21, 21-19, 11-8) in the semifinals and championship match, respectively.

On other Men's Open Single action, senior Jon Iglesias (Elmhurst, Ill.) defeated sophomore Nikolai Nahorniak (Elk Grove, Ill.) 21-10, 21-16 to reach the semifinals before falling to Mehilos.

Freshman Maria Dugas (Halifax, Nova Scotia) won two of three matches and Zender prevailed once in the Women's Open Singles. They placed second and third, respectively.

In the Men's A Singles junior Brian Connolly (Lemont, Ill.) and sophomore Pat Jarvis (Chicago, Ill.) won in the opening round before falling in the quarterfinals.

The Women's A Singles included seven Foresters. Sophomore Nicole Moser (Oak Lawn, Ill.) defeated classmate Sarah Brusig (Rifle, Colo.) 21-7, 21-15 in the semifinals and then knocked off senior Hannah Michal (Lake Villa, Ill.) 21-17, 21-20 in the championship. Michal reached the final by posting a 21-9, 21-14 triumph over sophomore Bianca Greene (Santa Monica, Calif.).

Freshman Riley Kloss (Mt. Prospect, Ill.) defeated senior Kushal Modi (North Little Rock, Ark.) 21-8, 21-10 in the seimifnals of the Men's B Singles before falling in three sets in the final. Senior Asa Reynolds (Bethesda, Md.) also advanced to the division's semifinals.

Freshman Ann Szutenbach (Chicago, Ill.) was the runner-up in the Women's B Singles.

Sophomore Ayal Sharvit (Buffalo Grove, Ill.) reached the semifinals of the Men's C Singles.

Kloss and Nahorniak upset Lee and Iglesias in the semifinals of the Men's Open Doubles but fell to Mehilos and Munson in the championship.

Dugas and Charron defeated Michal and Brusig before being knocked off by Ulbert and Zender in the Women's Open Doubles. Moser and Greene also reached the semifinals.

The Lake Forest men and women will be in action again at the Illinois Handball Association Doubles Tournament next weekend (February 12-15).
