Megan Mehilos Claims I.H.A. Singles Crown
D. White and Peters win divisional titles
  

Megan Mehilos defended her title as Open Champion.
LAKE FOREST, IL - Lake Forest College hosted the 2004 Illinois Handball Association Women’s Singles Tournament over the weekend (January 16-17) and numerous Foresters played well in the event.

Senior Megan Mehilos (Addison, IL) claimed the Open Division Championship for the second straight year after finishing second as a sophomore. Mehilos defeated Lake Forest alum Allison Roberts ’91 11-21, 21-3, 11-6 in the championship match.

Roberts advanced to the final by eliminating senior Samantha England (Prince George, British Columbia) in the semifinals, 21-15, 21-19. England had won a pair of matches to reach the semifinals. Senior Sarah Roberts (Plainfield, IL) was the only other Forester to advance to the quarterfinals, where she was defeated by former teammate Megan Gibson ‘03.

After falling in the round of 16 in the Open Division, junior Danielle White (Nova Scotia, Canada) steamrolled through the B-Division bracket, defeating sophomore Clare Longfellow (Wilmette, IL) in the quarterfinals, junior Tina Koludrovic (Darien, IL) in the semifinals, and twin sister Michelle White (Nova Scotia, Canada) 21-10, 21-0 in the championship match. Longfellow, Koludrovic, freshmen Lisa Jeziorny (Orland Park, IL), and sophomore Kim Lawser (West Chester, PA) each won once in the bracket and Michelle White recorded a pair of victories.

Jeziorny defeated Longfellow in the C-Division quarterfinals before falling to sophomore Melissa Peters (Buffalo Grove, IL) in the semifinals. Peters went on to defeat freshman Lindsay Ross (Springfield, IL) in the division’s championship match, 21-14, 16-21, 11-1. Ross won a pair of matches to reach the final.

The Forester men will be in action next weekend (January 22-24) at their I.H.A. Singles Tournament, held in Des Plaines, Illinois.
