Lake Forest Men Compete in I.H.A. Singles Tournament
Herrera wins B-Division, Silveira runner-up in A-Division

  

Arturo Herrera won the B-Division championship.
DES PLAINES, IL - The Forester men’s handball players competed in the Illinois Handball Association Singles Tournament over the weekend (January 22) and two of them reached divisional finals.

Senior Garrett Silveira (S. Hadley, MA) won a pair of matches in the A-Division before falling 15-6, 15-10 in the final.

The B-Division was where the Foresters experienced the most success. Juniors Arturo Herrera (Anchorage, AK) and Derek Meiring (Carleton, MI) each knocked off three opponents before meeting in the divisional final. Herrera took the match 21-5, 21-18. Meiring came from behind to defeat freshman Mike Mehilos (Addison, IL) 14-21, 21-16, 11-8 in the semifinals. Freshman Kevin Jarvis (Chicago, IL) and senior Dan McNabney (Moro, IL) also reached the division’s quarterfinals.

Freshman Joe Grubisic (Chicago, IL) won once in the B-Division to reach the round of 16 and added a victory in the C-Division before falling in the quarterfinals.

The next tournament on Lake Forest’s schedule is the Circle City Open in Indianapolis February 11-13.
