Foresters Succeed in A, B, and C Divisions at I.H.A. Singles

champion in the B Division.
DES PLAINES, IL - Members of the Lake Forest College handball team competed in the Illinois Handball Association Singles Tournament over the weekend (January 19-22). While no Forester was able to advance in the Open Division, the team found success in the A, B, and C brackets.

Senior Ivan Ruiz (Los Angeles, CA) and freshman Bill O’Donnell (Bayside, NY) both reached the semifinals in the A Division. Both were defeated in that round, Ruiz in three sets by the eventual champion and O’Donnell in two extremely close sets.

Sophomore Kevin Jarvis (Chicago, IL) won four matches to come out on top in the B Division. The semifinal lasted three sets and the score of the final was 21-20, 21-17. Sophomore Tom Pfiel (Philadelphia, PA) won his first match before falling to Jarvis in the quarterfinals and senior Rob Burda (Meridian, ID) also advanced to the quarterfinal round.

Freshman James Zender (Fishers, IN) was the C Division champion. He outlasted sophomore Carly Stickles (Ridgeway, ON) 21-17, 17-21, 11-5 in the final.

The next event on the Foresters’ schedule is the Circle City Tournament on February 10-12.
