Mark O'Leary Shocks the Field at Sweet Sixteen Tournament
Wins tourney from the number five seed

LAKE FOREST, IL - After a lack-luster performance at the Winter Blast Tournament last weekend, Lake Forest College senior Mark O'Leary (South Boston, MA) redeemed himself as he stormed through the field at the Sweet Sixteen Tournament over the weekend (January 26th-27th).

Seeded fifth, O'Leary held his first two opponents to seven or fewer points in each game, including a 21-4, 21-7 win over David Munson (Williston, VT) in the second round. O'Leary's win avenged a decisive loss to Munson in the same round of last weekend's tourney.

In the semi-finals, O'Leary knocked off top-seed Dane Szatkowski, a recent pro qualifier, by a final of 21-7, 21-17.

O'Leary met David Dohman '78 of Munster, IN in the championship match. Dohman got to the finals by beating the number two seed, Bill Mehilos (Addison, IL) in the quarterfinals and Shane Conneely '97 in the semifinals. In a match where the lead changed hands multiple times, O'Leary bested Dohman, 21-16, 12-18, to emerge victorious.

Shane Vigen (Edmonton, Alberta) won the A (runner-up) bracket with tie-breaker victories in both the semis and finals.

The Foresters next action will come at the Circle City Tournament in Indianapolis on February 2nd-4th.
