Danielle White and Carly Stickles Named Forester Athletes of the Week
Doubles Team earned Handball All-America honors last weekend

LAKE FOREST, IL - Lake Forest College handball players Danielle White (Monastery, NS) and Carly Stickles (Ridgeway, ON) shared Forester Athlete of the Week honors Thursday (March 3) for their runner-up finish in doubles at the 2005 United States Handball Association Collegiate National Championships last weekend (February 23-27).

White, a senior, and Stickles, a freshman, won 21-1, 21-7 in the Open Doubles quarterfinals and 21-14, 21-1 in the semifinals to earn Handball All-America honors. They were finally defeated 21-12, 21-16 in the championship match by the team that included the individual champion.

Both players also prevailed twice to reach the quarterfinals of the Open Singles bracket. White won 21-6, 21-6 and 21-18, 21-18 before suffering a 21-0, 21-6 loss to the eventual champion. Stickles record 21-8, 21-0 and 21-3, 21-9 victories prior to a 21-2, 21-2 defeat in the quarterfinals.

In the team competition, Lake Forest captured the men’s, women’s, and combined championships for just the second time in the program’s history.

The Forester Athlete of the Week is chosen by the Athletic Department on Thursdays.
