Megan Mehilos Wins I.H.A. State Singles Title
Junior defeats teammate Amy Sove in the finals
  

Megan Mehilos won her 
first IHA Singles Title.
LAKE FOREST, IL - Lake Forest played host to the 2002 Illinois Handball Association Women's State Singles Championship this weekend (November 15-16). Sixteen players competed in the tournament, including six current Foresters and a number of Lake Forest College handball alumni.

Junior Megan Mehilos (Addison, IL) claimed the individual title after placing second last year. Mehilos knocked off senior captain Amy Sove (Modesto, CA) in the finals (21-2, 21-7) to claim the crown. Mehilos defeated Forester alum Tanya Lazaro in the semifinals (15-1, 15-1).

Sove's quarterfinal victory (15-3, 15-5) was over fellow senior Megan Gibson (Brown Deer, WI). Gibson had won her opening round match over Forester alum Zoila Murillo (15-0, 15-5).

In the 'B' Division bracket, sophomore Danielle White (Nova Scotia, Canada) bested twin sister Michelle (18-21, 21-8, 11-8) in the finals. Danielle also eliminated freshman Nadia Fazel (Paradise Valley, AZ) in the divisional quarterfinals (15-3, 15-7).

The I.H.A. Joe Ardito Men's Contenders Tournament will be held next weekend (November 22-23) at Lake Forest College. The next women's tournament on the Foresters' schedule will be the I.H.A. Women's Doubles Championship January 24-25.
