LAKE FOREST, Ill. - Lake Forest College hosted the Illinois Handball Association Joe Ardito Contenders Tournament over the weekend (November 14-15). Nine current and several former Foresters competed in the event and, for the 13th consecutive year, a player from the College was the individual champion.

Sophomore Nikolai Nahorniak (Elk Grove, Ill.) won five times to claim the title. He defeated Tyler Stevens, a 2006 graduate of the program, 21-17, 18-21, 11-1 in the championship match.

The only other Lake Forest player to advance in the Open Division was sophomore Victor Perez (Los Angeles, Calif.), who prevailed twice before being edged out 21-19, 21-20 by Ivan Ruiz, another 2006 graduate of the College, in the quarterfinals.

Sophomore Pat Jarvis (Chicago, Ill.) rattled off four straight wins to claim the consolation bracket. He defeated junior Joey Urbani (Bozeman, Mont.) 21-17, 21-3 in the final. Both players had to go through teammates in the semifinals, where Jarvis defeated junior Brian Connolly (Lemont, Ill.) 21-13, 21-12 and Urbani knocked off freshman Riley Kloss (Mt. Prospect, Ill.) 18-21, 21-18, 11-5. Sophomore Ayal Sharvit (Buffalo Grove, Ill.) also reached the quarterfinals before falling 21-3, 21-9 to Connolly.

After a weekend off from competition, Lake Forest players will travel to West Allis, Wisconsin, for the Milwaukee Classic December 5-7.
