Alex Martinez was eliminated by the eventual champion in the tournament quarterfinals.
LAKE FOREST, IL - Lake Forest played host to the 2002 Illinois Handball Association Joe Ardito Men's Contenders Tournament this weekend (November 22-23). Sixteen players participated, including six current Foresters and a number of Lake Forest handball alumni.

Forester alum Mike Munson claimed the title a year after his brother, David (Williston, VT), who is now a junior at the college. Once a player has won the championship, he is ineligible for the tournament in future years.

Munson eliminated Alex Martinez (Andover, CT) in the tourney quarterfinals (15-14, 15-6). Freshmen Tyler Stevens (Toledo, OH) and Ivan Ruiz (Los Angeles, CA), as well as senior captain Derrick Tiveron (Toronto, Ontario) also advanced to the quarterfinal round.

Freshman Derek Meiring (Carleton, MI) was eliminated in the semifinals and junior Mike Sheehan (Sycamore, IL) in the quarterfinals of the 'A' Division bracket.

After a weekend off, the Foresters will compete in the Milwaukee Classic on December 6-8. The next home event will be the Sweet Sixteen Singles Tournament on January 17-18.
